As part of Paint Out Norwich 2017, The Hostry Festival is delighted to announce a conversation with artist and former Norwich Life Room iconoclast, John Wonnacott CBE and curator and founder of EAST, Prof Lynda Morris (NUA), looking at highlights of his career with particular emphasis given to spatial design from direct observation.

Wonnacott has painted the Royal Family and in 1997, then Prime Minister, John Major.

“he is widely considered one of the best portraitists working in Britain today…Landscape painting, however, is Wonnacott’s first love. He continues to paint images of his beloved Thames mudflats and sea scenes as often as he can, as well as cityscapes of London and New York.” – Daily Telegraph

Tickets to the Tuesday 17th Oct event are available from £5-£15 and on the door (from 7pm) at the Cathedral Hostry (building to the right of the main entrance)

“His innovation – what makes every picture unmistakably his – is his use of the extraordinarily wide-angled view. His canvases, full of dramatic distortion and plunging linear perspective, can take in as much as 180 degrees.” – Daily Telegraph

Tuesday 17 October, 7.30-9pm, Weston Room, Norwich Cathedral Hostry

“Wonnacott’s own art is earnest, and formalist; his preoccupation, the age-old painter’s investigation into ways of seeing.” – Daily Telegraph
